LISTEN: "Legally Speaking" with Michelle Suskauer

LISTEN:

It's a new weekly feature on-air and online, called "Legally Speaking" with Michelle Suskauer, a Board Certified criminal trial attorney for well over 20 years and a past president of the Palm Beach County Bar Association.

You'll hear this on The Morning Rush each Friday morning and get more information and audio here on WJNO.com.

A Palm Beach County judge has delayed the re-trial of Wellington polo mogul John Goodman, at the request of the defense.

The judge hopes to get it started in April.

Michelle Suskauer is not connected with the case, but breaks down a myth about serving on juries in high profile cases.

"To serve on that case, it's not whether or not you've ever heard of John Goodman, but it's whether or not you've pre-judged the case."

If you get a summons for jury duty in the mail, Michelle says don't ignore it.

"If you fail to call and respond to the summons, you could be held in contempt and/or be facing a $100 fine."

If you are called to jury duty, you may not have to serve.  While it is an important function, some people just don't have the ability to miss work.

"There are boxes that you can check off on your summons that say 'this is why you're claiming to have a postponement or be exempt."
